Taiwan’s labour market looks buoyant: almost a third of employers surveyed say they expect to hire more people. Although hiring expectations in India are at their lowest since the third quarter of 2005, confidence remains high relative to many other countries. A sense of uncertainty prevails among employers in China—nearly two-thirds say they don’t know how their payrolls will change in the next quarter. Employers in recession-hit Brazil expect to shed more workers in the second quarter, but the labour market is stronger than it was a year ago.
